More Success for Maddy Kirk 2016
Congratulations to Maddy Kirk from the LRYSA for being selected for the National Youth 4 . 7 Laser Squad by the RYA.
Maddy is still only 16 and continues to progress in her sailing career.
Our principal Colin Magee the LRYSA instructors and the youth racing team wish her all the best for the future.
Success for Maddie
Our own Maddie Kirk has been competing in a weeks racing programme at Brancaster Sailing club. Competing against much older sailors, some of them from the Zone Squads - and has achieved 1st place over all. Her achievement is even more comendable in that she was sailing with a 4.7 against full radials.
WELL DONE MADDIE FROM ALL AT THE LRYSA
Inter Schools Regatta
The Annual Inter Schools Regatta was held at Bosworth Water Trust on Wednesday 2nd July. All the students taking part were from 6 local schools and had all trained with the Leicestershire and Rutland Youth Sailing Association (LRYSA) over the Spring and Summer terms under coach Colin Magee. 48 students aged between 9 and 18 qualified to Level One Junior Sailing Standard. The Regatta gives the students the chance to race against each other in what was a very successful and enjoyable day. More advanced young sailors from the LRYSA Racing Team volunteered their time to help organise and run the event.
The Mayor of Hinckley and Bosworth (Jeffery Bannister) and the deputy Mayor presented the prizes to the winning school on the day. Redmoor Academy took first place, followed by Dixie Grammar in second, and Dorothy Goodman in third. A special Endeavour trophy is awarded each year to the student who had shown the most improvement and commitment. This trophy was awarded to Ethan Quinney from Dorothy Goodman.
Councillor Keith Lynch the president of the LRYSA congratulated all the children for what they had achieved, and thanked the parents and teachers for their support.

Strong winds make the going tough as sailors compete in first regatta
The first heat in the Mayors Trophy and Mathew Fullham Memorial Trophy regatta series took place at Bosworth Water Trust on the 14th of April.
Twenty sailors took aprt in spite of a 35mph wind which made keeping the boats upright extremely difficult for the young sailors aged between 12 and 18. The children battled their way around the lake completing all three races.
Niamh Chenery took first place in the Mayors Trophy race. Niamh is only 12 years old and very slightly built making handling her boat in such extreme conditions all the more admirable.
In second place were Edward Green and Kieren Newell racing a double hander. Edward and Kieran, in their first competition, are from the Dixie Grammar School in Market Bosworth. Edward is partially sighted but bravley did not let that stop him competing and beating off the other competition.
In the advanced class - Mathew Fullham Memorial Trophy - first place went to Matt Haywood aged 14.
Matt is proving to be a first class sailor regularly beatin older more experienced sailors. In second place was Charlie Robertson, one of two county team captains.
The second heat in the racing series will be at Roundhills Sailing Club on May 11th
The LRYSA wins once again at the Hinckley and Bosworth Sports Awards
Leicestershire and Rutland Youth Sailing Association triumphed once again at the Hinckley and Bosworth Sport and Health Alliance Sports Awards, winning Club Of The Year for the second year running. The award was given for the charity's high standard of training, increased participation of local schools and youth groups, and most of all for the Youth Racing Team's success in national events.
The Association also swept the board in other categories winning junior sportsman for Nathan Blundell aged 12 and Junior Sportswoman for Maddy Kirk also aged 12.
The LRYSA specialises in training young people to become instructors. Matt Haywood aged 14 an assistant instructor won young volunteer of the year for his dedication, commitment and hard work.
The adult volunteer award went to Adam Parry who in spite of serious injury earlier in the year still committed himself to helping to train the racing team to his usual high standard.
The Awards evening which was held on the 29th of November at Desford College was made even more special for the young sailors. Mike Wood World Topper Sailing champion now training for the 2016 Olympics was guest of honour on the night. Mike began with the LRYSA when he was nine years old, and was the racing team champion until he was 17.
