The NSSA's
National Youth Regatta is a week-long sailing event where young people represent a local association, school or club and sail as part of a team to compete for individual and team trophies. This team ethos permeates the event as many camp together and take part in evening sporting activities. It provides a fantastic wider experience for the sailor staying away from home, and many of the young people make life-long friends.
Racing during the week consists of around ten races in fleets such as Topper, Laser, Fast and Slow Handicap. A Rookie fleet for those in their first year racing away from their home club provides a supportive training environment for younger sailors. Also during the week is a day of one-off races including the prestigious Mount Haes Trophy, raced in heats in two-person boats provided by the event organisers. This provides exciting fast-paced racing close into the shore for spectators to enjoy and support their teams.
