Junior Sailing Courses


Junior sailing courses for Ages 7 to 18 are generally taught in groups as they learn quicker and enjoy this style of learning. These courses follow the RYA Scheme and work to their ratios for tuition and safety while keeping the courses enjoyable and stimulating.


RYA Stage 1:

There is no assumed knowledge for stage 1. The content of the course includes launching and recovery, helming, components of the boat and basic sailing. The ability achieved once stage 1 has been completed is to understand basic principles, being able to helm, speed up and slow down, giving a great start to sailing.


RYA Stage 2:

With stage 2 there is assumed prior basic knowledge and the ability of being able to sail to stage 1 standard. The content of the course includes basic sailing skills, collision avoidance and ropework. When the stage 2 has been achieved the participants will be able to tack and control boat speed and understand basic principles, achieving a range of sailing skills & knowledge to help in becoming a confident sailor.


RYA Stage 3:  is the next step to becoming a super sailor, you will learn more advanced skills to improve your sailing and confidence in a fun and exciting setting. By the end of this course you will be able to confidently sail around a triangular course in moderate conditions including the ability to capsize and recover, rig your boat and launch and recover your boat all on your own!


RYA Stage 4: take your enjoyment of sailing to the next level with our final step in the RYA Intermediate Stages. Learn advanced boat handling skills in double-handed boats. Cover material such as leaving and returning to a jetty, beach or mooring, sail a double handed boat as a crew or helm and solve a variety of exciting challenges afloat. By now you will be really confident with your sailing and with this course you will have the opportunity to sail lots of different boats from our extensive range.


Sailing with Spinnakers

Required Experience: Sailing skills equivalent to RYA Level 3 Better Sailing or Stage 4

RYA Sailing with Spinnakers course is for adults or children. The course content includes, rigging a spinnaker sail, more advanced sailing techniques and manoeuvres as helm and crew using equipment to advantage, hoisting, gybing, dropping, apparent wind.


Seamanship Skills

Required Experience: Sailing skills equivalent to RYA Level 3 Better Sailing or Stage 4

This course focuses on improving boat handling and maneuvering abilities in various circumstances.

Participants learn essential seamanship skills needed to solve problems afloat.

The course is suitable for both adults and young people interested in dinghy sailing.


Start racing

For start racing you need sailing knowledge and ability to at least stage 3 or level 2. From fun races to regatta’s this course teaches everything you need to get off the start line and around the course. When start racing has been completed sailors will have all the skills required to start club racing, including how to maximise boat speed and outwit your opponents


Completing the course doesn’t necessarily mean that a suitable level of ability will have been reached, certification will only be awarded once an appropriate degree of competence has been achieved. We will do our best to help students reach this goal however some may get there sooner than others.
